Have u tried the delicious fish head noodles along Amoy Street? Ka Soh is famous for their fish head noodles; both dry & soup. The restaurant is usually filled with families during dinner time. But still you will be able to find a table really fast. Waiting time varies on the crowd. Sometimes you can wait till more than 30 minutes.

My favorites dishes are: Food Noodles Dry, Fish Noodles soup, and sweet sour pork. It is good enough to keep 2 person full. But the soup noodles is very small bowl. And you will have to pay additional $1 for extra soup if you request while you placed your order, if not you will have to pay $3! Yes, service there is just not their primary business. But the food is good enough to come back again & again.

Day three- 17/05/06

Power was finally restored at around 5am last night. Most of us suffered several bites from the commando mosquitoes in Medan… We woke up talking about how many bites we had… and how big they were… Cool rite???

Today, most of us will be separated to different services in the evening. Our first service for the day was at Microskill Campus. We will be reaching out to the diploma students.

We arrived and prayed with the student leaders before the service. Most of them could speak a little English. They made us more comfortable at home as we heard them singing an English worship song (can’t remember the title). After a short prayer, we entered the class filled with 30 young students. They were a little shy & uneasy when they saw the video camera.

We had a little game session led by Eddie. It was a great ice-breaker game. But the students were tough! We could hardly spot any loser…

After game was testimony time! Chris, my Bao Bei shared with them how he was blessed by God when he tried to cope with church, work, school and many more thing despite he had no money to start with in the first place. Many of them were very encouraged by the testimony.

Ailing prepared a wonderful sermon & was ready to preach. It was her first time preaching, and she had spent a lot of time to be ready for the day. Wow… she preached well, man!!!

Both Cheer & I had to excuse ourselves & take care of Bee Leng as she was feeling a bit sick. She was puking, and feeling a bit feverish. So Cheer & I stand in for Children Church that evening. With little time, and not much preparation, we rehearsed what we are going to do for games, praise & worship, preaching, etc. Both of us had no experience in handling children. But at least Cheer had served in elderly church before.

After Microskill, we went to Gedung Harvest & rested there. There was a group of boys practicing breakdancing. They rock man…doing stunts, turning in circles on their heads… **giddy**

We heard that they are the best team in Medan City. And all of them are Christians in David’s CG. Hippy, godly, cool… City Harvest Indonesia is really impacting & changing the life of the youth in Medan.

Children Church started at 6pm at Mandolin, but we were still trying to think hard what we can play for games. The children were praising happily when we arrived there. Oh yes, Maria!!! Maria, a church member from Gedung Harvest  (is also called City Harvest Indonesia or Medan City Harvest) came & support us. She is sooooo cute. Thanks God for guidance for teaching me how to lead praise & worship. Everything ran smoothly though there was a little hiccups at first.

Bee Leng was still vomiting, and had agreed to visit the clinic. We met Malanie who drove us to GBI. The clinic was just opposite GBI. Juni-our interpretor & Maria brought us there while we waited for Lawrence & Ailing at the same time.

At the same time, Chris & Eddie were in Tamariska- Helvetia for a prayer meeting. They finished their meeting around 8plus and were already back at Bukit Doa resting.

After Lawrence’s preaching, Juni & the rest brought us for dinner. We-Lawrence, Be Leng, Ailing, Cheer, me went home after dinner feeling so tired. We woke Chris & Edie up for a short debriefing. As Bee Leng was still feeling unwell, Eddie had to replaced her as the preacher for the next morning service. Little time was left to prepare… As usual, God does miraculous thing! Puji Tuhan…

Summary for Day 3:
Microskill Campus- Attn: 30, No altar call (Christian fellowship meeting)

Children Church- Attn: 90, Altar Call: 30 (Rededication)

Day 2 is an exciting & eventful day… we went around on the street of Tanjung Morawa inviting people to tonight’s crusade. We drove an hour and arrived there around noon time. The students just finish class and were making their way back home. Pastor Gandhi was our interpretor. We first came to this little school filled with secondary school boys, probably 16-17yr old. But most of them were sticking a cigarette in their mouths even in their school uniforms.

While Lawrence & Eddie were trying to invite them, large crowds of primary school students surrounded us. We took out our video camera & digi cam and started shooting around. The children were excited & thrilled by our presence. We looked like ‘aliens’ to them… hahaha…
Without hesitating, Bee Leng started to tell them about the events at Ecumenical Church. We told them that we will be having a short drama, song item, preaching of words. Most of all, we are also giving out sweets to them. They were SURPRISED to hear the word - sweets… All of them jumped for joy when they heard about it. We told them to spread the word around, and bring their friends, relatives and parents around. Immediately, we can see that the children were very interested in us. All we can see are happily, smiling kids… looking forward to tonight’s crusade.
More students came, and the words spread… they waved us goodbye, as we made our way back to Ecumenical Church for our lunch.

When we arrived at Ecumenical Church, we went around snapping photos of the few months old church building. Sandy floor, some attractive decro hanging from the rooftop, a keyboard and a guitar hung on the wall. Lunch was chicken with potato and carrot soup. During lunch, we discussed with Pastor Gandhi what we had prepared for tonight’s events. We tried to find out more information from him. Before we left Bukit Doa in the morning, Pastor Johnny told us that the people there were dying spiritually. Many Christians who came but soon given up hope on them. We hope we can do something for God tonight.

After lunch, we were to an old man’s place beside the church to pray for his healing. He was bed ridden for more than 10years. He was also hard on hearing. The team went into is room & prayed for him. His limbs and hands were skinny, bones covered with wrinkled skin. My heart was compassionate for him the moment I stepped into his stuffy room. Words of prayer filled the room, all of us were dripping in perspiration. The air was hot, and we were all drenched… the old man said he felt better, the pain is lesser, but he wants us to pray for his ears. Again, we prayed, believing that God will heal his hearing. He said he could hear better, and we prayed for the other ear. He could hear better too… PTL…
As we left the place, we told the old man & his wife to keep believing for his back, hands & legs. Healing is progressively… continue to believe…

After leaving the place, we were separated into 3 teams.

  1. Lawrence, Eddie
  2. Beng Leng, Ai Ling
  3. Chris, Cheer & me

We had to go for more visitation to those around the church. Our team had to go to buy the sweets for tonight crusade too. We came to this place which belong to the muslim residents. The houses there are more modern & expensive. When we approached one of the residents, he warned us to get a permit from the security before inviting anyone to the crusade. Argh… Setback, but nvm…

We went to a nearby mini-mart & bought lotsa things. After waiting for half an hour for the rest of them to fetch them, we headed to a bigger supermarket further down the road. We bought the wrappers for wrapping the sweets. We also bought lot of stuff them which we might need for the next few days.

After shopping, we made our way back to church. At 5pm, many children were already seated inside the hall. Chairs were laid, and we rehearsed our drama at the back alley. Soon… it stared to rain heavier & heavier. Oh gosh… we went around the church in prayer walk. Everyone of us… praying intensively… Power failure! Lights were gone.. and there were no torch-lights around.

But as we were standing outside the church, we saw a tree shaped of a cross. God, You are good! All of us were readily armored for the spiritual warfare. Because of the rain, some of the parents came & bought them children home. But God is good… as 2 children is being pulled away, more children came into the hall. Puji Tuhan…

At about 7:45pm, the service started. We had a candle light service. oh yes. THE RAIN STOPPED! The church was overflowed with people. 120 people came.

We did our first drama. We sang the only Bahasa Indonesia song we know-Menganal Mu. Lawrence preached the word. Yours truly shared my personal testimony.

At the end of the service, 38 responded to the altar call. 2 people were healed.

  • Leg Pain gone
  • Right side hearing recovered

Pastor Gandhi told us its revival. The church there never had that kind of attendance, not even on a sunny day. Wow… isn’t God wonderful?

It was an unforgettable candlelight service… Thank you, Jesus…

Power was restored when we left the village. But at Bukit Doathere was a blackout till 5am. We slept with no air con and no fan… and lots of mosquitoes… Zzzzzzzzz

Hi All,
Yes, I know many of you have been waiting for me to blog about my recent trip to Medan. There is so much to say but words can never describe how fulfilling and wonderful the trip was. I know this will NOT be my first & last trip, in fact, I am already planning to go for another one maybe end of this year.

Day One - 15/05/06
I finally understand why Singapore Changi Airport is rated one of the best airport. The moment we arrived the Medan airport, we had to be tactful & cautious of our belongings. People can just take the luggages without any acknowledgment slip. We are so afraid that our stuff will be lost, but PUJI TUHAN (PTL), our stuff were finally found after much waiting. Everything was in a mess. We found out later that the Medan Airport was burnt down last week, and we had to use the temporary one till the new one is built. They just started building the new airport recently, wonder when is the temporary airport gonna be used till???

We waited for about 10 mins before Nuah came & fetched us. The car was loaded with our luggages, we had to wait for David-Nuah’s Bro to come & fetch us. Traffic was heavy, we waited under the hot sun for another 10 min before David came. And off we went to our "home sweet home" for the next 7 days.

We stayed in the church premise which is in Bukit Doa. The environment was humbly surrounded with paddy fields & guava trees planted by the church members. We were excited though we didn’t get to stay in a hotel.

The girls’ room have an air conditioner, whereas the guy’s room have 2 fans. Poor guys… ;P There was no water heater. Water is pumped up from a well dug near the hostel. There was nothing much in the room, just 2 mattresses with 4 pillows, a mirror and a cupboard. The guys just have a bed & a mattress, but NO MIRROR… No complaints anyway.

After settling down, we had a short discussion with Pastor Kenneth & Nuah about the sessions over the next few days. Our schedule is very tight. Practically have no time for shopping…

We had our lunch at Bukit Doa. A church member-Maria did the cooking. It was delicious. After eating, we made our way to Mandolin & stared our first session.

Preacher was Lawrence, Ai Ling shared testimony. The crowd were University students. At first, they were quite shy, sitting far away from the preacher. But Lawrence broke the ice very quickly, they were sitting nearer to us by now. Many of them were very touched, and we lay hands on them & prayer for them. Some even cried. I could feel the presence of God moving into the room. Thank you, Jesus…

After the session, many came & shook our hands. The students were very friendly.

Night Cruscade
After that we made our way to  Dangang Kumbar Village at Binjai. The journey took us about an hour. We had our dinner at one of the villager’s home, we had some local home cook food. It was just a simple meal but was satisfying enough for us.

The Praise & Worship was supreme! The young children sung so well, and were dancing for joy. The adults were always enjoying themselves in the presence of God. Many of us were very touched.

We did a song item-Menganal Mu. We had only started learning it on last Friday-12/5/06. But by God’s grace, we did it… :)

Bee Leng shared the word, and many responded too.

Total Decision for Day One: 80
Attendance: 128
Healed: 5
